New Stars for Milburn Creek and a Stellar Easter Draft
Tara Madgwick – Wednesday, 29 March 2017
Popular Sydney owner breeder John Muir has been breeding and selling top class horses for years, and that success has gone to a new level with the relocation of the Milburn Creek nursery to the Southern Highlands of NSW.
Under the care of respected horseman Scott Holcombe, the Milburn Creek brand has flourished with renewed success on the track and in the sale ring.
Milburn Creek had the honour of selling the top lot at the 2015 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale when their Snitzel colt from Admirelle made $2.2 million and have also enjoyed Group I success as an Easter vendor having bred and sold Group I winning Redoute’s Choice colt Hampton Court for $500,000 in 2013.
The Milburn Creek brand was seen to the fore just last Friday night when the ultra-talented Not a Single Doubt colt Doubt I’m Dreaming won the Listed MVRC Ascend Sales Moonee Valley Pearl on debut for the John McArdle stable.
Also flying the Milburn Creek flag this year has been classy three year-old Hinchinbrook filly Flying Jess, who was a Group III winner last season at two and scored a barnstorming win in the $2million Magic Millions 3YO Guineas for her big team of Prime Thoroughbreds owners in January.
The Milburn Creek Inglis Easter draft features 10 yearlings prepared for themselves and clients who include Tony Santic’s Makybe and Spendthrift Australia.
Highlights are below with comments from Scott Holcombe:
Lot 2 Filly Starspangledbanner x Valkyrie Diva, by Jade Robbery (USA) (for Makybe)
Half-sister to stakes-winners C’Est Beau La Vie and Wales and is from triple Melbourne Cup winner Makybe Diva’s Group III winning half-sister Valkyrie Diva.
Very flashy filly and is her father all over!
Lot 122 Colt Tapit x Euphrosyne (USA), by Harlan’s Holiday (for Spendthrift)
One of only three yearlings in this sale by Champion US Sire Tapit and is the first foal of a US Group III winner from a solid Black Type family.
Very similar in looks and colour to his sire. Has good bone and a great head. Appears to be a forward two year-old type.
Lot 11 Filly I Am Invincible x Well Credentialled, by O’Reilly
Third foal of metro winning half-sister to Group III winner Gotta Have Heart and stakes-winner Crossyourheat, the dam of this season’s Group III winner Swear.
Very attractive racy filly as we expect to see from the sire.
Lot 51 Filly Sebring x Belladini by Bernardini (USA)
Second foal of a half-sister to stakes-winner Mrs Kipling from the family of Group I winners Cosmic Endeavour, Easy Rocking and Fairy King Prawn.
Dark colour like many in the female line of this family. Very attractive filly with a good walk and strong top.
Lot 162 Colt Snitzel x Gold Chant, by Made of Gold (USA) (for Makybe)
Half-brother to Group I winner Amicus from the family of champion sprinter and Group I sire Starspangledbanner, who was also bred and sold by Makybe. Also closely related is Lot 255.
This horse has done particularly well in the last part of his prep and is a good clean legged colt with a great nature.
Lot 187 Colt Redoute’s Choice x Jeter, by Mossman
Three-quarter brother-in-blood to Group I placed Group III winner Fast ‘n’ Famous, also a Group I producing sire.
Typical of the sire, great shoulder and hips, good bone, lovely colt.
Lot 334 Colt Exceed and Excel x Secret Admirer, by Dubawi (IRE)
First living foal of brilliant $1.4 million earner and dual Group I winner, who was raced by John and Trish Muir to win the Epsom Handicap and Flight Stakes.
He is a dead ringer for Mum in looks, particularly his head. He’s a strong well grown colt, but will be even better with time.
Lot 338 Colt Written Tycoon x Shabtis, by Elusive Quality (USA)
Half-brother to Group III winner Take Pride and is the second foal of a winning half-sister to
$5million earner and triple Group I winner Mummify and the dam of Group III winner Ottoman.
Stamped by his sire in type and colour.
Lot 385 Filly I Am Invincible x Tahnee Topaz, by Lonhro
Half-sister to two winners from a metro winning daughter of champion sire Lonhro from the family of Group I stars Shogun Lodge, Referral and Singing the Blues.
Tough, strong filly with a good walk and will improve with time as have all the good horses in this family.
