Sepoy Filly Impressive
Tara Madgwick – Wednesday March 7
Promising Sepoy filly Tarabai will not be out of place in Black Type races later in the carnival following her dominant victory at Warwick Farm on Wednesday.
A debut winner at Hawkesbury in January, the Hawkes Racing trained filly over-raced last start when narrowly beaten by Sheikha at Warwick Farm last month.
Ridden more quietly this time around, she settled last in the field of five and motored around them after turning for home to win the 1200 metre Benchmark 70 contest running away by three and a half lengths.
A $370,000 Inglis Easter purchase for Laurel Oak Bloodstock from the Milburn Creek draft, Tarabai runs for a big group of owners headed by Laurel Oak.
A half-sister to Group I placed Cornrow, she was foaled and raised at Kitchwin Hills and is the fourth winner for stakes-winning Exceed and Excel mare Baby Corn, who was covered last spring by another Golden Slipper winner in Capitalist.
Sepoy had the equal second highest priced filly at the 2018 Inglis Premier Yearling Sale this week with his filly from Beauty World fetching $400,000.
